No. We use conscious sedation, so you stay awake and able to respond to us, just deeply relaxed. You're never put fully under like a general anaesthetic.
It depends on the level of sedation. With laughing gas you'll remember most of it; with oral or IV sedation many patients recall little of the appointment, which suits very anxious patients.
After laughing gas, usually yes, as it wears off quickly. After oral or IV sedation you must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you.
Nitrous oxide clears within minutes of stopping. Oral and IV sedation can leave you drowsy for several hours, so we recommend resting at home for the rest of the day.
